Lessons in the all weather surface.
For beginners, lead rein.
Trotting, cantering and jumping
Body protector is recommended but compulsory for jumping.
Small children must be led and for smaller ones we ask a parent to walk alongside them
NO MINIMUM AGE
Trekking is going out walking and trotting only.
Riders can have half lesson and half trekking.
Will be assessed in the arena prior to going out
Groups are catered for and start in the ring checking the riders and their mounts and a briefing. Then go out.
For experienced riders who can control their horses over fields.
Will be assessed in the arena prior to going out
Will start in the arena for a briefing and checking horses and riders. The ride will be at the pace of the less experienced rider (if one rider cannot canter the others can canter once back at the yard).

Rosettes given and a certificate to frame
Either in the all weather surface or the barn. Bales of straw to sit on, tables and chairs, games during the ride.

You provide the food we provide the place and ponies/horses and instructor.

British Standard EN1384 has been withdrawn
ALL HATS must be PAS 015 1998/2011 or VG1
YOU MUST CHANGE YOUR HAT if its the old standard or hire one £1 per ride or £2 per day
Your hat must fit as we cannot accept hats which are too big or loose. Or damaged.
SHOES with a small heel, flat sole and no tongue (eg trainers) no inside zip on boots as it will damage saddle
Arms must be covered even in hot weather with a shirt with long sleeves

Ridden rosette: On TROT: Be able to do a smooth transition into and out of sitting trot and maintain a good RYTHM in correct riding position.

COST for EQUITATION and STABLE MANAGEMENT
Equitation Test 1
The horse/pony must be tacked up ready for the rider.
1. Check and adjust the girth – dismounted. 2. Check and adjust the stirrups – dismounted. 3. Prepare for mounting and mount from a mounting block (assistant may hold the horse if necessary). 4. Know how to shorten and lengthen the reins. 5. Rider’s position at halt. 6. Ride from halt to walk. 7. Ride a set course at walk to include left and right turns. 8. Ride from walk to halt. 9. Dismount, run up the stirrups and prepare to lead in hand. 10. Lead in hand. 11. Rider’s position, balance and application of the aids. 12. How the rider made a partnership/rapport with the horse/pony.
Equitation Test 2
Horse/pony to be tacked up. 1. Prepare the horse and mount from a mounting block without assistance.. 2. Check the girth and stirrups when mounted. 3. Ride 20 metre circles in walk. 4. Ride from walk to trot and sit to the trot. 5. Sitting trot on the straight and with changes of direction. 6. Rising trot. 7. Ride from trot to walk. 8. Position of rider at walk and trot. 9. Know what artificial aids are. 10. Rider’s position, balance and application of the aids. 11. Return the horse to his box or stall. Leave safe and comfortable still tacked up. 12. How the rider made a partnership/rapport with the horse/pony.
Stable Management Test 1
1. Know how to approach a horse in a box or stall, and be aware of safety around horses. 2. Put on and fit a head collar. 3. Lead in hand in a head collar. 4. Tie a quick release knot. 5. Pick out feet and know what to look for. 6. Name 5 articles of the grooming kit and know their uses. 7. Know and point to 10 parts of the horse. 8. Know the colours of the horse and point out 5 different colours on your yard.
Stable Management Test 2
1. Name and point to all parts of the saddle. 2. Put on a numnah and saddle. 3. Know what to do to a horse’s back after riding and why. Explain what problems you would look for. 4. Untack a horse and demonstrate how to take the tack safely back to the tack room, wash the bit and hang up bridle, store saddle on a saddle rack. 5. Demonstrate knowledge of the different types of girth. If possible find some different ones in your yard, or find pictures of them. 6. Know the names and positions of the markings of the horse. Find at least 5 in your yard, or find pictures of them. 7. Discuss and name at least 5 things to check before using a field for horses. 8. Describe/demonstrate the safe method used when releasing a horse into a field. 9. Describe the safe method for catching a horse in a field.
Test A to E are for young riders or nervous riders

The rider’s horse/pony must be prepared beforehand.
Riders may be assisted with mounting, girths and stirrups may be adjusted for them. The riders may be led. 1. Rider’s position at the halt. 2. Know and apply the aids for walk. 3. Ride with a leader on the track at walk. 4. Know and apply the aids for halt. 5. Dismount (rider may be assisted). 6. Know 3 parts of the saddle and bridle. 7. Rider’s position, balance and application of the aids. 8. How the rider made a partnership/rapport with the pony.
Stable Management Test A
1. Know how to approach a pony in a stable. 2. Name and show three points of a pony. 3. Name and show three parts of a bridle. 4. Name and show three parts of a saddle. 5. Name and show three items in a grooming kit.
